In addition to the established research projects, the Centre has devised a structure that incorporates subject or issue led groups to promote the development of individual, group and collaborative research and to provide a platform for discourse and exchange of ideas. These groups are open to all staff of the university interested in or involved with fine art research. The groups also encourage the participation of research degree students.

It is the ambition of the Centre that new initiatives emerge from these groups, some of which would have the potential to grow into substantial projects alongside the existing portfolio.
